Search and Rescue Team

In most regards, the PERT Search & Rescue Team (SAR) is a traditional “ground pounding” team that works in all seasons, from the mountains to the plains of Pueblo County.  The Search & Rescue team receives the fewest PERT calls due to the County’s topography and land use.  With such a low call load, maintaining skills that support safe and efficient response is difficult, so mutual aid from nearby teams is advantageous.  In return, the PERT offers dive response support.

From experience, certain calls, especially those involving persons lost in the Arkansas river, are best handled with a combination of PERT search and dive teams.  Any calls involving the use of paddle craft (rafts, canoes & kayaks) in search, rescue and recovery efforts, for example.  Searchers serve as dive tenders, in support of the dive team, during swift water rescue.

Since PERT was formed, over 16 years ago, there has not been one failed search or recovery.  All persons lost in Pueblo County have been found.
